What are sprinkler cover plates?

Fire sprinkler cover is a flat metal plate that is normally soldered to the retainer. Together they are usually called the cover plate assembly designed to concealed fire sprinkler. The cover plate assembly is installed flush with the ceiling or wall to provide a smooth appearance. There are three main functions:

1. Hide the sprinkler/support cup assembly to provide aesthetic benefits.

2. Protect the sprinkler from any unintentional mechanical damage and keep it from dust, dirt, and debris.

3. Promise the normal activation by covering the gap and blocking heat and smoke from rising into ceilings or walls.

How does the concealed sprinkler operate?

During the fire condition, the solder that holds the cover plate and the retainer melts. Then the cover plate falls away at once. Continued heating of the exposed sprinkler causes the sprinkler to activate and water to flow.
